Water System Updates
Debt-Free Municipal Water System is moving FORWARD
Late last year, the Village of Pellston received a once-in-a-generation achievement: $44 million in grant funding awarded through the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) to build a brand-new, debt-free municipal water system with a water source located outside of the PFAS contamination area!
In order for the Village to move forward with the project, EGLE required greater than 50% interest in property owners desiring to connect to a public water supply system. The following is a breakdown of results to date: 60% YES 10% NO 30% No Response
• The Village had a greater acceptance rate than required, allowing the project to move
forward.
• Through the Villages consultants, the project has been under design with the goal of receiving bids in June of 2026. Construction could potentially start this fall or spring of 2027.
What This Means For You:
• Healthier Homes: Enjoy safe, clean drinking water.
• Higher Property Values: A modern water system increases the value of every home and business in Pellston.
• No Added Taxes or Water Debt: This is a fully grant-funded project—no loans, no interest, no future repayment. Note: A standard monthly water bill will still apply for usage and maintenance.
• A Legacy of Sustainability: This investment ensures long-term water security for our
Next Steps for ALL Property Owners:
Included in this packet is a two (2) page Owner Water Service Line and Well Abandonment Agreement. In order for the property owner to connect with no connection charge, the Village will need this document filled out, signed and returned. Deadline for
returning the agreement to the Village Hall is MAY 15, 2026. You can return the agreement by U.S. mail or email at pellstonvillage@gmail.com. If you need additional time, please contact the Village. The Village will hold Public Outreach Meetings to go over this process in more detail.
Please join us for one of the following public outreach sessions:
- April 21, 6:00 PM at Pellston High School Auditorium
- April 23rd, 10:00 AM at the Pellston Village Office
If a Property Owner does not provide a signed agreement response, it will be signified that the Owner does not want to connect to the municipal water system. Future costs due to a well failure or other reasons that require connection will be at the Property Owner’s expense.
